What are the different levels of chemical peels:

Light: Commonly referred to as ‘lunch time’ peels, are light acid blends applied in 1 or 2 layers. There is little downtime with near zero interruption of your regular schedule. They are also called ‘Party peels’, because they act fast and are safe and those who want to look good quickly can use this.

Mid-Depth: act in the deeper layers of the skin than light. These types of peels will produce light to moderate peeling and flaking which will last for 2-3 days. This is an elective procedure and you will need to follow a pre and post peel regimen for best results. Changes to your usual routine may also be necessary, including but not limited to reducing exercise/sweating, staying out of pools and chemicals(including make up), away from excessive heat and cold, heat sources, and stopping of creams containing retinols, AHAs or anything that could cause irritation.

Advanced/Intensive: this is the deepest peel that is done and will cause a downtime of 5-7 and sometimes 10 days. As with Mid-Depth peels, you will be required to be committed to professional skin creams, pre and post peel regime with changes to usual routing.

With all levels, your commitment to using sunscreen daily is mandatory.

Any side effects or complications?

Some people with sensitive skin may develop burning sensation and photosensitivity(which is why we recommend high strength sunscreens). Because the procedure is done by Dr Madhavi itself with continuous monitoring any side effects can be minimized.

How often can I undergo chemical peels?

It is better to not undergo too often. Nowadays many peels and peel like products are available in the market for home application and many people use them every week. This is strongly discouraged. Also in the salons and beauty parlours we see similar treatments. The problem is some beauty therapists are untrained and inexperienced, failing to recognize skin types — fair, sensitive, acne-prone or with broken veins — that will react badly to them. We recommend minimum one month gap between treatments. Of course if a woman wants to get faster results for some specific purpose(such as a wedding) we may under strict supervision reduce the gap.

How much does it cost?

The cost is 1500/- per session. Drs consultation is Rs300/- valid for 3visits/15days. Please look out for promotional offers from time to time(on thursdays).

At Dr Madhavi’s Advanced Skin Hair and Laser Clinic, all chemical peels are customized. The right formula for your skin will be chosen at the time of your consultation. If chemical peels are found to not be right for you, or you are not a candidate, alternate exfoliation methods may be recommended.
