Before & After (Keloid)

Cryotherapy:

It’s often used to treat skin lesions, which are skin growths or patches that don’t look like the skin around them. The lesions can be:
Benign (not cancerous).
Actinic keratosis. These are precancerous skin cancers that look like scaly patches on your skin, and they can turn into cancer in the future.
Superficial skin cancer (skin cancer that’s on the surface of your skin).
Cryotherapy also helps save the area around the lesions and to reduce the scarring as much as possible.

Your doctor will then spray liquid nitrogen on the area being treated to freeze it.

What is a Keloid?

A keloid is usually larger than the original wound.

A scar that stays inside the bounds of the original wound is a hypertrophic scar.

A keloid scar is a thick raised scar. It can occur wherever you have skin injury but usually forms on earlobes, shoulders, cheeks, or chest.

Does Cryotherapy get rid of keloids?

Cryotherapy, in the form of the standard whole body, localized, or intralesional cryosurgery has been shown to be the most effective, safest, and easiest-to-perform method of keloid removal. Also known as cryosurgery, the procedure involves the application of extreme cold on keloid often via liquid nitrogen.

Is Cryotherapy Painful for Keloids?

Cryotherapy is a painful procedure, especially for larger keloids.

Proper pain control is the most important factor in using cryotherapy to treat keloids.

How do you know when a keloid has stopped growing?

Once keloid stops growing, it tends to be darker than a person’s skin. The border is usually darker than the center Chest scars.

A raised scar

(A) A raised scar rises above the skin whereas,

(B) a keloid rises above the skin and spreads.

Are keloids Genetic?

The benign skin disease can either sporadically, or can exhibit a familial pattern. Keloid disease is considered a genetic disease due to the strong genetic susceptibility of keloid formation as it occurs predominantly in African and Asian descent and runs in families and has been found in twins.
