Hair removal offered by dermatologists uses either laser technology or electrolysis. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
How does each technology work?
1. Laser – High-intensity light/laser pulses target dark-colored melanin pigment in hair root. The light energy is converted to heat energy and the root is vaporized.
2. Electrolysis – A small wire/ probe is inserted into the hair shaft and a current is applied which completely burns off the hair bulb. The process is repeated for all hair follicles covering an area.
What modality do you use?
We are using the latest intense pulsed light laser for hair removal, with excellent results. The machine, unlike previous machines, has an inbuilt skin cooling system for comfort.
How many sittings do I require?
In any one sitting only 10-60% of hair follicles are targeted – these are hairs that are in the growing phase. Further sessions target hair follicles that become active and thus 6-10 sessions may be required.
How much time between settings?
3-4 weeks.
After how many sittings can I start seeing results?
As the sessions progress you will notice hair becoming thinner and finer after each session. Usually results are noticed after 4 sessions.
Are the results permanent?
At the present time, there is no technology, which can give absolutely permanent and complete hair removal. Please do not be taken in by advertisements promising ‘complete and permanent hair removal’, it is usually only a marketing strategy. All technologies cause ‘Hair reduction’.
Does it hurt?
For an average person the procedure does not hurt.
Any complications from the procedure?
Complications are minimal and rare. Burning sensation and redness may be seen in a few patients. Loss of skin pigmentation/ increase in skin pigmentation may also be seen. However with adequate care, these are minimal.
What can I expect on my first visit to the clinic?
After clinical examination and detailed history, you may be advised tests to evaluate hormonal function, which is commonly the cause of increased facial hair in ladies. Please note that not all patients will need such tests and we do not advise laser for all our patients. We will advise only if there is good chance of success.
How much does consultation cost?
First time consultation is Rs300/-. You would probably need only a single one time consultation and therefore this is a single charge for hair removal patients. Note that this consultation is valid for 3 visits over 15 days.
What is the cost for laser treatment sessions?
If after consultation you decide to go ahead with treatment then the cost depends on the area of treatment. Please contact us for price. If you decide to go for a package of sessions we can offer you a reasonable discount.
